Mahoney Plumbing has been amazing with a serious problem. Imagine you have an elderly very frail and ill relative living in a house older than the relative, and the sewer fails according to city inspectors. Not a position anyone wants to be in. Through referrals and good luck, Peg and Dan Mahoney of Mahoney Plumbing, serving the North Shore, took the issue and have been marvelous in dealing with the City, the relative’s offspring, and subcontractors. They took what was a nightmare situation and ‘cleaned’ it up. As far as we are concerned, the timely and helpful result, during a holiday week no less, has been less stressful due to the helpful cooperation of the City employees involved and the work of Peg and Dan Mahoney.

I'm a long-timer home owner, so I've seen the good, the bad, the expensive, the cheap. I've used Mahoney for approximately 7 years for my Lake Forest home. I lived in the home for approximately 6 years and now have moved out of state and have tenants living there. We have a service contract with them so they come every fall and spring for furnace tuning and pipe rodding. From a workmanship standpoint their team is consistent in their approach, always on time, organized, and they know local codes, e.g. I'd never know if Lake Forest has a special requirement (and they do, for pipe materials etc - no cheap materials allowed), but Mahoney adheres to them which means that when future home buyers 'look under the hood' they will be happy and see that everything's been done with great care. They are also very good people, which really matters when, as a homeowner, you end up trusting your home to myriad contractors and such. The Mahoney HVAC and plumbing teams are absolutely professional. Because I'm a seasoned homeowner, I know you can never go cheap on plumbing/HVAC. But Mahoney offers value-based services wherein I pay what's needed, but they always help out and do an extra tweak, and are flexible, and do smart preventative things. The office responds to phone calls and e-mails promptly and they are very organized. Because I'm now managing that home from out of state, I have to double-check on many of my contractors, but Mahoney is always organized, prompt and accurate with billing, work scheduling etc. Anyone who has owned a home in the North Shore knows the value that Mahoney offers in comparison to other shops. Based on my experience owning in Chicago, Lake Forest, and in Florida and California, Mahoney is a great plumbing co.

Did not meet my expectations on a few calls so i have switched to a local company that does. My Issues: 1. EXPENSIVE at least 1/3 to 1/2 more expensive than same quality service elsewhere. 2. On one occassion I had to google info on a carrier thermostat with the solution for the worker and I still was charged an outragous amount! 3. Another time they came and saw a faucet issue, did nothing as they could not properly access and charged me $260! Then said part was not available as faucet was no longer made. Would take 2 men a day to install a new one that they recommended for $1,000. I found same new in 5 min on internet for $220, called Pasquasi who replaced the same faucet with the new one in 2 hours and charged me $300. My guess is it would have been about $1800 total cost from Mahoney. They told me that skilled labor is not cheap! Agreed but easy to find same quality for less.

My general, contractor used Mahoney to roughout a bathroom remodel in an old house. Two years on no issues at all w plumbing. Only quibble is price (they're a union shop, I believe), but I don't mind too much as "you get what yu py for".
