Greg Shick review about company American Leak Detection of Southern New Jersey and Delaware
I noticed last year that I was losing about 1/4 inch of water a day in my 18 X 36 in-ground vinyl liner pool. I've done a lot of on line research on the different methods of troubleshooting to determine if there is in fact a leak and not water loss due to evaporation or daily use. After spending all of last summer researching and determining I did have a leak, I called American leak detection at the beginning of this season. So first let me say the service person Frank was very nice, but when paying 500 dollars for 3 hours, I don't want nice guys, I want guys who can find and fix leaks. He was on time and professional. First he did a test with a submersible microphone on a wire while walking around the outer edges of the pool listening for the leak but had no luck. He then did a pressure test on the underground lines and found nothing and at least relieved my worst fear. So as last option he went in the pool to do a physical inspection of the liner and here is where I have a problem. I would have thought that he would have put scuba gear on and slowly went around the pool looking for the leak. Instead, he put on goggles and did fast 30 second at a time free dives. I just don't see how rushing around before you run out of breath looking for a small tear or leak is the best way to do it. After about an hour of doing that and being at my pool for the total of 3 hours, he said he couldn't locate the leak. He asked me to once again do a bucket test over night and call him the next day with the results. He said if it still looked like it was leaking ( and why wouldn't it) he would come back for a second time at no charge ( as a previous poster said he did in fact do). I did the bucket test over night and sure enough I lost about 1/4 of water and sent Frank a text and picture of the water loss. He responded and said he would be in contact with me to setup another inspection time. I never heard from him again. I've spoken with 2 other people who have had people come out to look for pool leaks and they both said the people looking for the leaks went into the pool with scuba gear on and found the leaks. I know leaks can be very difficult to find but again, my issue is with the process of free diving quickly and not using scuba gear and taking his time. I haven't bothered to try and contact him again because contractually American Leak detection fulfilled their obligation for 3 hours, but there is a lot left to be desired in their methods.
These guys were a waste of time and money. Came out to the house to try to figure out where a water mark on the ceiling of one of my first floor rooms...
