We had around £3.5k of work undertaken on three separate visits. Visit 1 - Asked for a quote for a broken drainage pump They charged us £120 + VAT to come out and look at a broken pump (I had told them it was broken already), and then to give us a quote. OK so paying for a quote just feels a bit odd to me. When the quote was around £2k we asked for the cost of the initial quote to be taken off but this was refused. Visit 2 - Pump replacement The engineers doing the pump replacement had also replaced the drain cover, and replaced the concrete around it, which they then left dumped in the garden for us to discover (of course they didn't mention leaving it there when the finished on-site!). At the end of the pump replacement the engineers said there were rusty pipes from the pump, but they had to leave quickly and said the office would give us more info but to use the pump sparingly (ie. don't use much water!). We then had to chase the office three times by e-mail and phone to try and get some information - they said "because the engineer hadn't passed anything on". Ended up talking to the engineer directly who basically said we could break our new pump if we didn't get the pipes repaired very soon, so we got them booked in for another visit. Visit 3 - Pipe repair We were quoted standard day rate of around £1k + VAT, and that engineers would arrive from 8am to do the work. One arrived at 9 and one at 9.30am, and both were gone by 3pm (one was before then but not sure when). Even assuming we paid for their lunch and tea break, that's still around £90 per hour + VAT per person. When they left they said they'd noticed the concrete that was left behind and had removed it. However 2 weeks later we discovered they had just dumped the broken pipes in a flower bed in our garden! Our replacement pump and pipes are still working 1 month later though. TL;DR. Very expensive. Charged for a quote even when it gave them over £3k of work. Left rubbish in our garden ... twice. Turned up late. Pump and drains working now.
