"24/7 service" Apparently means that they will call you back within 24 hours. Needed immediate help, and didn't get a call back until the next morning. I did not use their service.
I'm not sure I have ever written a review ever but felt I needed to share my experience because I'm getting a little upset with contractors/companies in the Wilmington area trying to take advantage of people and overcharging for simple work in their trade. I will start by saying that I am not shocked that this company has great reviews because the plumber that came out to look at our water heater was on time, responsive and a very nice guy but I'm thinking these reviews must come from people who have a lot more money than I do or don't research the cost of a job. Wife and I needed a new water heater so called them due to good reviews. Came out to take a look and basically just looks at it and says yeah it needs to be replaced which I expected and he could get me some quote options. This 20 minute quote they charge you for in the order of $100 even though they do no work. Our unit is a simple gas tank water heater. I got a quote to "fix" the unit for $800, replace with 6 year warranty $3000, replace with 9 yr warranty $3800 and replace with 12 yr warranty at $5500! Not to mention almost 8k for a tankless option. I'm not sure if this is the case and this is just speculation and probably a good business model from a profit standpoint but it seems they have their $100 house calls which take no time at all and in my case didn't have to do any work. These calls likely generate good profit if they can schedule a bunch in a day. Then the significantly up charge quotes for services and if people pay these ridiculous prices; great, they make a killing. If people don't go with them; great, we got $100 for minimal time and now can make more house calls to give more quotes and estimates. Received two more quotes on replacement and the contractors couldn't believe what I was quoted either and one didn't believe me until I showed him the quote. Neither one of the other estimates was over $1200 and now we have purchased a brand new water heater with a 12 year warranty which we paid $900 for everything. Maybe this is not the case for their other services but I cannot comment on any other services provided as this is our first time dealing with them but have little faith those are much better. If you need new water heater and have a bunch of money you want to get rid of and overpay for one, give them call. Otherwise my recommendation would be to start with some FREE quotes elsewhere.
The only reason I am giving this company two stars instead of one is because the plumbers arrived in a timely fashion. But I am furious and would never recommend this company. We had an issue with our bathroom sink and the individual who came to the house charged us approximately $250.00 for a job that took maybe 15 minutes. That would have been fine had the sink been fixed. Immediately after the plumber left, the sink was leaking. The plumber had obviously not tested the plumbing. We called within an hour and were told someone would come the next day, as an emergency, (since it was a Friday job) but that it would not be charged to us unless it was something we had done. Since we had not touched the plumbing, I assumed this was a non-issue. I assumed wrong and was charged another massive amount (plus the emergency call fee) due to the fact that the problem was a pipe the first plumber had not replaced. But should have! Please be wary of using this company. We will certainly never be utilizing them again and I am extremely upset with the service we received.
Hunter, Service Pro, for Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, Wilmington NC made several repairs at my house, inspected and made suggestions for future home plumbing needs. Hunter worked and carried himself as a professional should. My experience was a pleasant one... except for the initial flood!
We had Benjamin Franklin in Wilmington come to our brand new house and install a water softener. The technician ended up reversing the out and in water lines which caused the resin from the water filter to go all through our new home, it stopped up everything. The showers, sinks, etc. They sent another technician out to fix the problem and it took four hours of our time to flush all the lines. My personal shower didn’t work correctly and the tech told me if it didn’t fix itself after some water flowed through it for a few months they would replace it. They came back today to fix another issue and I wanted them to fix the shower they broke. The manager Dwayne said it wasn’t their fault and he didn’t want to fix it. He asked why I waited so long to call back and I explained I had cancer and haven’t been at the house. I’m prior military and a cancer survivor and The manager gave me a ton of anxiety telling me he wouldn’t fix the problem. I’m having to call another plumbing company now. Note: The service technician told the manager the faucet needed to be replaced but the manager was giving us both a hard time. UPDATE: The manager called and said they would come fix the problem they made. They never showed up.
