contacted Goff to address an A/C unit that was functioning but not blowing cold. technician assessed unit and diagnosed the need for more refrigerant, and recommended using a sealant to seal the leak that led to the loss of refrigerant. new refrigerant and sealant were added and the A/C was functioning properly again. good so far. was quoted $86 for the diagnostic service call, $60/lb for refrigerant(I needed 4lbs), and $220 for the sealant. the labor involved to install the sealant involved 15 seconds to attach two fittings (by hand, no tools required) and 15 seconds to detach and continue installing the refrigerant. i watched this process first hand. I thought at the time that the cost of the sealant seemed high, but not knowing the industry I was not going to argue with the technician. So I retained the packaging from the sealant that I just purchased(Goff accused me of stealing the package), and did some online research. I was able to find, purchase(no license required), and have shipped to my door the EXACT same product for $35.26. mind you I have no relationship with this supplier and only purchased one item, so I would assume that anyone buying in bulk and buying a variety of other HVAC supplies from a supplier would be able to get it for less than me. but I digress. My intention was to deliver my new unopened sealant to Goff to replace the stock used for my job and receive a refund for the $220. I figured the 30 seconds of labor involved to install the sealant would have been covered by the service call and the refrigerant cost. I was told no refunds and given a list of excuses as to why the cost is what it is, my favorite of which was that their cost for the sealant was $68.50 per. Lastly, in the spirit of full disclosure, this A/C is on a houseboat, and in the course of the discussion regarding my request for a refund the owner of Goff actually said, "why are you complaining about price, you have a houseboat". So, if you appear to have money you are not allowed to expect to be treated fairly, not allowed to be a vigilant consumer, and you better be prepared to get taken advantage of by this company.
My grandmother had a air conditioning unit installed less than three years ago by GOFF. She has had to have them back 4 to 5 times to fix the unit in this timeframe. It has never worked correctly. It is broke again this week and I cannot get any response out of this company! Horrible service!
These guys have come in the heat of the day, and have sweat there butts off to make my house cool again, Kenton and Dale Wallis are literal heat warriors for us!!! This company is literally the coolest company out there, thank you Goff HVAC and Solar for the life saving work!!
