My wife and I first contacted Karl to make an appointment for a tile back splash. After we had an appointment scheduled, Karl booked someone else during our time slot even when our text log CLEARLY stated that we were expecting him on the day he recommended. Frustrated, we rescheduled for another day to proceed with the job. We were told the job included the grout, so we shopped for grout colors and informed Karl of the color and brand. We bought a bag just in case if for some reason he wouldn't be able to get the same color. When he arrived, 20 minutes late, he said Home Depot had replaced the color with another color. He brought "Warm" and we selected "Cobblestone" and told us they were pretty much the same. Warm actually was a color we ruled out. They hadn't replaced anything, we knew this. Both colors are current. They just simply didn't have it. Frustrated, my wife simply said, "Since you bought it yesterday, you could have texted me yesterday and my husband could have driven back to Floor and Decor where they do have it in stock." He said he needed two bags and we only had one. Really still no big deal, I would go get the grout while they get started. Then the weirdest conversation started outside when I moved my car. I realized he had been outside for a long time talking to his helper. When I got out of my car while he was out there, he told me we needed to find someone else to do the job. He went on to explain that we should find someone more fitting for this job. He didn't want us to be disappointed half way through and realize it then write a bad review or something. I was perplexed, he was CANCELLING. I explained that "we blocked off today and the day last week for this. Please don't walk away now! That will be more frustrating than anything that's happened. All that's happening is I'm going to buy another bag of grout and you get started. I'll be back. We move on." "No, I have to decline," he said. I tried explaining that this is the most unprofessional thing that's happened. We had a really bad time with our cabinets, it took four weeks and was only supposed to take 3 days. But we stuck with those people and didn't write a bad review. They were problem solvers. We moved on. But Karl just cancelled. After we took everything out of out kitchen and had him scrape the walls for 5 minutes just long enough to create a small mess to clean up, my wife and I told him to get his tools and leave. If I could give him zero stars, I would. He doesn't deserve the one star I'm required to click to post this review selecting. Additional details: The grout is current and NOT discontinued at Lowes. It's more expensive and has to be ordered in advance. Possibly two reasons he didn't have it. One 10 lb bag of grout should cover about 80 square feet, we only had 40 square feet of tile. Maybe there is something else here I don't know, but it already seemed odd that we needed another bag.
Having a mailbox that's full will NOT get you any customers. I just tried several times to call. I'm calling the competitor.
Karl & team did a wonderful job. We had several projects they completed them all on time & on budget. Were always on site when promised and work hard until the job was complete. Very good communication . Will use again in the future.
Karl and his team are great! They came and helped us with a project we messed up and got it done quickly and professionally. Even came at 6:00 pm! I will be using them again and have referred a friend as well. Thanks so much, Karl and everyone at Southern Classic!
