We went to Home Depot for a granite countertop and backsplash installation. We came into the store with exact measurements of our countertops and backsplash and we picked out everything and prepaid based on an estimate. We were assured that the backsplash and countertop installation could be coordinated by the same company on the dates we had planned so we wouldn't have to take extra time off from work. They called us a few days later and told us the backsplash that we picked was discontinued and we needed to come back and pick it from the flooring department. Now we had to deal with two separate contractors who could not coordinate the job. They sent out two different people to obtain measurements. The countertop measurements were the same as the ones we initially provided, however the Home Depot store representative had not calculated it correctly and we had to pay an additional $1500. The measurement guy came way earlier than his scheduled window and we had to miss an appointment to accommodate him. Next came the granite installation:We had granite countertops installed by Stone Systems in July 2017. The installers cut out the place for the sink inside of our house. It filled our house with a very fine dust that was very difficult to clean up. They said they were supposed to cut it outside, but they were afraid of breaking it. The next morning when we tried to install the sink, it did not fit in the hole they had cut. It was a Saturday, so the place was closed. After calling all of the phone numbers and emailing everyone on the list they left for us, they sent the contractor back out to fix our issue. When he arrived he refused to use the template provided with the sink. He recut the granite inside of our house. Once again, our house was filled with this dust. Later in the week when another contractor came to install our backsplash, he refused to do the job because the granite had been installed in our sink area with no support under it. We called Stone Systems about this and they said it was normal. We then sent pictures showing the gaps between the granite and the cabinet tops with light showing through and they said we should have them work through a window or take the sink back out and have the contractor stand in there. In other words, they took no responsibility for the issue. We had to have the area braced ourselves before we could have the backsplash insalled. We later received a call from Stone Systems telling us that they would be sending us a survey and would we be able to say that we were extremely satisfied. When I replied that we were not extremely satisfied, the caller was rude and did not want to hear my concerns. They never sent us a survey. Do not believe their survey results because they are only sent to customers who are prescreened and did not have a problem. I would never recommend or use this company again. Then we had these issues with the backsplash installation: The tile installer did a great job. However, we received an estimate after a professional measurement from Home Depot. We prepaid for the installation of the backsplash. The installer refused to finish the job in the middle of the installation unless we paid more money. The part he did not want to complete was included in the original price. We made a payment of $245 more dollars that we thought was unfair to get the job completed because we felt we had no other choice. We feel that this is an unethical business practice to charge customers more than the agreed upon price in the middle of the project. The contractors should review the job ahead of time to ensure that the price is agreeable. We spoke with the store representatives at Home Depot regarding these issues and they did not care to resolve them. We also responded to the survey we received and made them aware of the issues, but we never received any follow up or resolution. We chose Home Depot because we believed they were a reputable company that would stand behind their work, however, we were mistaken and will not use them again for home improvement.
